BIBLIOGRAPHY

Ralph Slatton was once asked why he chose an art vocation. He dryly replied, "Perhaps I have my old High School teachers to thank for my present career. They always discouraged me from drawing during study hall, so I felt compelled to do just the opposite." Slatton completed the BFA degree at Arkansas State University, but was side-tracked for a few years, while pursuing Electrical Engineering at the University of Arkansas. Because of the restrictive nature of the field, Slatton returned for the MA in Printmaking at ASU, and then continued with the MFA from the University of Iowa in 1987. Upon graduation, he had two employment offers, one as curator of the Native American collections at the South Dakota Art Museum; the other as drawing professor at East Tennessee State University. Slatton chose the latter, and currently teaches printmaking and drawing full time.
