CURRICULUM VITAE
Ralph Slatton was born in 1952,resident of a small rural community in Northeast Arkansas. His mother was a native of
Yokohama, Japan, and she provided much toward his artistic sensibilities. In like manner, Slatton's father contributed a good
quality of Southern humor and an easy going manner. Creativity and humor have always been a prominent part of Slatton's
earliest memories and continued to play an important role in his artwork today.
Slatton holds the degrees of BFA and MA from Arkansas State University, and the MFA from the University of Iowa. While at the university,
he had worked as assistant registrar at the IA Museum of Art. He assisted with an exhibition of African art at the Taiwan Museum of Art
in Taichung. Working closely with the collection provided much influence toward his interest in animal imagery. In 1990,
he acquired a position with East Tennessee State University to coordinate drawing and pre-medical illustration programs. He later served
as department Chair for about five years.Ralph Slatton presently heads the printmaking program, teaching intaglio, lithography, relief,
and screen process. This site is a documentation of his accomplishments, exhibitions, and service, as artist printmaker.
